Easy Return, Clean Carpets

Renting and returning was hassle-free. I liked that it didn?t leave the carpet soaking wet. Would use again when needed.

Better Off Hiring a Pro

After reading some solid reviews, I figured Rug Doctor was a smart option for cleaning my place before hosting guests. I was wrong. The machine was bulky and difficult to maneuver in tight spaces. Even after two passes, most of the stains were still visible, and the carpet looked uneven. It left behind too much moisture, so my whole place smelled musty for a day. I used the recommended cleaning solution, followed instructions carefully, and still didn?t get good results. The stairs were especially hard to clean with the short hose attachment. I feel like I wasted hours and didn?t accomplish much. The machine might be fine for light touch-ups, but it definitely can?t compete with a professional cleaning service. The whole process was tiring and disappointing. I?ll probably never rent it again. Sometimes spending a little more upfront saves you a lot of stress in the end.

Only Good for Surface Dirt

It got rid of some light dust and surface stuff, but deeper stains were untouched. Better than nothing, but not by much.

img 2/5.0 21, Jun 2025

Rental Not Worth It

By the time I rented it, cleaned, dried, and returned it, I could?ve just paid a pro to do a better job.

Very Poor Results and Time Consuming

I spent nearly an entire Saturday trying to clean my carpets with Rug Doctor, and honestly, I wish I hadn?t bothered. The machine was extremely loud and left streaks across the carpet instead of a consistent clean. I went over areas multiple times and saw little to no improvement. Some parts of the carpet even looked worse afterward?darker and more matted. Also, the machine leaked near the handle which left puddles in my living room. Setup and breakdown took way too long, and I had to call customer service twice for help getting the tank attached correctly. I ended up feeling frustrated and exhausted. This was supposed to be an easier and cheaper alternative to professional carpet cleaning, but it turned out to be a lot more work with much worse results. Save your time, honestly?it?s just not worth the trouble, especially if you?re dealing with older or stained carpets.

Good DIY Option

Used Rug Doctor before moving out. Landlord was happy with how the carpet looked. Saved me from a cleaning fee.

img 4/5.0 19, May 2025

Got the Job Done

It?s not perfect, but it did the job I needed. My hallway looks a lot cleaner, and the machine was easy enough to use.

img 1/5.0 11, May 2025

Couldn?t Finish the Job

The water tank cracked while I was cleaning. Had to stop halfway through. Returning it was another nightmare.

img 2/5.0 06, May 2025

Not Great for Pet Owners

I tried Rug Doctor hoping it would help freshen up my carpet and remove some lingering pet odors. While it did manage to lift a few surface stains, it didn?t really do much for the smell, and I still noticed fur embedded in the carpet after cleaning. I used their pet-specific formula, thinking it would be more effective, but honestly it felt no different than a generic cleaner. The machine was heavy and awkward to move from room to room, especially on stairs. The water tank also fills up too fast, so I had to keep stopping to empty and refill it. Overall, I think this machine is okay for quick refreshes but not for deep cleaning, especially if you have pets. It didn?t meet my expectations, and for all the effort it required, I probably should?ve just scheduled a professional service instead. Won?t be using it again anytime soon.

Machine Malfunctioned Mid-Clean

I rented a Rug Doctor to clean my apartment carpets before moving out. Things started off okay, but about 20 minutes into cleaning, the machine just stopped spraying water. I double-checked everything?water level, plug, hoses?and still couldn?t get it to work. I ended up having to finish the job manually, which defeated the purpose. Returning it was frustrating too; the clerk offered no refund or credit even though the machine clearly wasn?t working properly. The whole thing was a waste of time and money. It?s disappointing because I?ve used older versions of Rug Doctor years ago without issues, but this time around was just a mess. I wouldn?t recommend relying on it for important cleanups. Maybe I just got a bad unit, but the lack of customer support made it worse. I won?t be taking the chance again. I expected better from a well-known brand like Rug Doctor.

img 5/5.0 13, Apr 2025

Better Than Expected

I honestly thought it would only work a little, but it lifted a lot of grime. You have to go slow, but it works.

img 2/5.0 06, Apr 2025

Noisy and Inefficient

Sounded like a jet engine and didn?t clean half as well as I hoped. Still had to scrub certain areas by hand.

img 2/5.0 27, Mar 2025

Disappointed with Cleaning Power

I had high hopes for Rug Doctor after seeing good reviews, but my experience was underwhelming. The machine looked sturdy and worked fine initially, but the actual cleaning results didn?t live up to expectations. I followed the instructions, took my time, and even used the brand?s own cleaning solution. Still, many stains?especially near the hallway and couch?remained. The machine left my carpet wetter than expected, which made drying take a full day. It?s also really loud and not easy to maneuver in tight corners. Emptying the dirty tank was a bit messy too. I think it might work well for light cleaning or maintenance, but if you?re hoping to revive older carpets or get rid of deeper stains, don?t count on it. It was a lot of work for not much reward. I?ll probably go back to hiring a professional cleaning service next time instead. Just not worth the hassle.

img 2/5.0 18, Mar 2025

Instructions Were Confusing

The manual wasn?t clear, and I had to look up a video online. Took way longer than expected just to figure it out.

img 4/5.0 09, Mar 2025

Helped with Allergy Dust

After using Rug Doctor, my sinuses felt clearer. It really pulled up dust and pet dander from the carpet. Impressed with that.

img 1/5.0 27, Feb 2025

Not Worth the Trouble

After setting it up and spending hours cleaning, the difference was barely noticeable. Next time, I?ll just hire someone.

img 5/5.0 14, Feb 2025

Happy with the Results

I?ve used Rug Doctor twice now, and it always does a decent job. Not professional-level, but solid enough for home use.

img 5/5.0 01, Feb 2025

Brought the Carpet Back to Life

I almost replaced my carpet because it looked so worn, but I decided to try Rug Doctor first?and I?m so glad I did. It made a huge difference. The high-traffic areas especially looked cleaner and felt softer. I used the pet solution since I have a dog, and it helped eliminate the doggy smell too. The machine itself was pretty easy to use once I got into a rhythm. Took me about half a day to finish two rooms, but I didn?t mind. Way more affordable than new flooring or hiring someone. Definitely planning to do it again soon.

img 4/5.0 21, Jan 2025

Decent Results

It?s not magic, but it got my living room looking a lot better. Great for a quick refresh before guests come over.

img 4/5.0 10, Jan 2025

Definitely Helped with Pet Messes

With two cats and a toddler, our carpets needed serious help. The Rug Doctor did a great job cleaning up old stains and mystery smells. I liked that it was fairly simple to figure out and didn?t make a huge mess during setup or use. It?s a little tiring to push around for long periods, but nothing too bad. The carpet looked way better after, and even our cat allergies seemed to settle down. I wouldn?t say it?s magical, but it?s effective enough that I?ll probably rent it again every few months. Worth the effort and the rental cost.

img 2/5.0 04, Jan 2025

Heavy and Awkward

It?s not user-friendly at all. Very heavy and awkward to push. Not something I?d recommend for smaller people or tight spaces.

img 1/5.0 24, Dec 2024

Short Hose Made It Tough

The hose was way too short for cleaning furniture or stairs. Had to constantly drag the whole machine around. Super frustrating.

img 5/5.0 13, Dec 2024

Easy Rental, Great Cleaning Power

I rented the Rug Doctor from my local store and was surprised by how powerful it was. I used it on both my carpet and a fabric couch. The attachments made it super easy to get into tight spots and corners. I was shocked at how dirty the water looked?definitely proof it was working. It?s a bit bulky but not hard to handle. My place smelled fresh and felt cleaner afterward. Everything dried quickly too. This was such a good alternative to hiring a service. I?ll be recommending it to my friends and using it again myself.

img 5/5.0 08, Dec 2024

Surprised Me!

This worked better than I thought for a rental. Old coffee stains are mostly gone now. I?d rent again without hesitation.

img 4/5.0 28, Nov 2024

Impressed by the Cleaning

I didn't expect it to pull up so much dirt. It was satisfying to see the water turn dark. Some areas needed extra effort, though.

img 2/5.0 16, Nov 2024

Didn?t Work on Odors

My carpet looked a bit better, but it still smelled musty. I expected a more thorough clean, especially for pet smells.

img 5/5.0 07, Nov 2024

Brought Back the Original Color

My beige carpet had turned kind of gray over time, and I didn?t realize how dirty it was until I used Rug Doctor. It pulled up layers of dirt and stains, and the carpet actually looked close to the original color afterward. It takes some effort?especially emptying and refilling the tanks?but it?s worth the results. I liked being able to go over spots more than once. The solution didn?t leave a strong scent either, which I appreciated. For the price and ease of use, I?ll be doing this more often instead of waiting until it gets too bad.

img 1/5.0 26, Oct 2024

Rental Process Was a Pain

It took forever to get someone to help me at the rental counter. The machine was dirty, and the paperwork was confusing.

img 4/5.0 14, Oct 2024

Cleaned Well, Just a Bit Loud

I used the Rug Doctor to deep-clean my family room carpet, and it made a noticeable difference. It cleaned up some old coffee stains and even helped lift out pet odors. The only downside was how loud it was during use, but that?s not a big deal considering the results. It was easy enough to use once I got the hang of it. It?s a bit heavy, but the wheels helped. For a rental, I was very satisfied. I?ll likely use it again in a few months to keep everything looking and smelling clean. Would recommend to others.

img 5/5.0 06, Oct 2024

Good for Quick Clean Ups

I use this every few months and it keeps my carpets in good shape. No major issues, and it?s straightforward to operate.

img 5/5.0 24, Sep 2024

First-Time User, Happy with Results

This was my first time using Rug Doctor, and I?m glad I gave it a try. The machine was straightforward, and the results really exceeded my expectations. I used it on the carpets in two rooms, and they looked way better afterward. The best part was how much grime it pulled up?I had no idea the carpets were that dirty. It took me a couple of hours, but that?s better than paying someone else. I also liked that it dried fairly fast. I?ll probably do this every few months to keep the place looking fresh. Solid product overall.

img 4/5.0 18, Sep 2024

Cleaned Well, Bit Bulky

It definitely made a difference in my carpet. Just wish the machine was a bit smaller. Still, I?m happy with the results.

img 2/5.0 06, Sep 2024

Missed Too Many Spots

Even after cleaning, you could still see some old spills and spots. It just didn?t lift everything like I hoped.

img 2/5.0 17, Aug 2024

Machine Was Too Bulky

Carrying it into my house and moving it around was a pain. It barely fit in my car and took up half the living room.

img 4/5.0 09, Aug 2024

Good for Light to Moderate Stains

I used Rug Doctor on some light stains from pets and general traffic. It did a good job overall. Not every stain came out 100%, but there was a clear improvement, and the carpet looked brighter. It was easy to rent and operate, and it wasn?t too hard to return. I appreciate that the machine didn't leave a soggy mess behind. Dry time was a few hours. The machine is kind of bulky, so carrying it up stairs wasn?t fun, but I got it done. Great choice if you want a solid cleaning without calling in a professional.

img 5/5.0 01, Aug 2024

Easy and Effective

Super easy to rent and use. My bedroom carpet looks way better now. The machine is a bit loud, but cleans well.

img 5/5.0 28, Jul 2024

Surprised by How Well It Worked

I decided to try Rug Doctor after seeing positive reviews, and I?m glad I did. The cleaner picked up dirt I didn?t even realize was there. I used it in the living room and bedroom, and both came out looking much better. The drying time was decent, and the smell left behind was clean, not chemical. Setup was pretty quick, though it took some effort to carry it upstairs. Still, the quality of the clean made it worth it. For a rental machine, this performed way better than I expected. Will definitely use again next time.

img 4/5.0 14, Jul 2024

Pretty Good Machine

Did a solid job, especially on the areas near the door. It?s not perfect, but I was happy with the end result.

img 1/5.0 09, Jul 2024

Broken Hose Attachment

The attachment hose wouldn?t stay connected, and I couldn?t clean the corners or stairs properly. I returned it and won?t be renting again.

img 2/5.0 30, Jun 2024

Soap Residue Issues

Even after following the instructions, it left a soapy residue that attracted more dirt. My carpet looked worse after a few days.

img 5/5.0 15, Jun 2024

Carpet Looked Nearly New Again

I was amazed by how well Rug Doctor worked on my old beige carpet. It had years of built-up grime and pet stains, and I wasn?t sure anything could help at this point. The machine was simple to use and got up so much dirt that I had to empty the tank multiple times. It even helped with the smell. My carpet is nowhere near new, but it honestly looked close to it when I finished. I didn?t expect that level of cleaning from a rental. I?ll definitely be using Rug Doctor again for spring and fall cleaning.

img 5/5.0 04, Jun 2024

Good Rental Experience

Rented from a local store, and it worked great. Setup and return were easy. Machine handled our hallway stains well.

img 4/5.0 30, May 2024

Did a Nice Job for Rental Unit

I used Rug Doctor to clean the carpet in a rental apartment before moving out. It picked up a lot of dirt and made the place look much better. The property manager even complimented how clean the floors looked. It?s a little loud and takes some effort to maneuver, but it?s worth it. The tank was easy to fill and empty, and it didn?t leave too much moisture behind. This definitely saved me from a possible cleaning fee. If you don?t mind putting in the work yourself, it?s a smart way to freshen things up before a move.

img 4/5.0 18, May 2024

Worth a Try

I was skeptical, but it did a nice job on some older stains. You still need some elbow grease, but the machine helps a lot.

img 1/5.0 05, May 2024

Very Loud and Ineffective

It was so loud, I could barely think. And for all the noise, it didn?t really clean much. Just made my carpet damp.

img 5/5.0 27, Apr 2024

Worked Like a Charm

Very easy to use and the results were better than expected. A little heavy, but manageable. Would use again for sure.

img 5/5.0 20, Apr 2024

Highly Recommend for Busy Homes

We?ve got two kids and a dog, so our carpets take a beating. The Rug Doctor worked wonders on high-traffic areas, especially near the entryway. It?s easy to use after reading the instructions, and the results were noticeable right away. My wife and I were both impressed by how much fresher the house smelled afterward. The machine is a bit heavy but manageable. I liked being able to spot-clean certain areas twice if needed. For the price and convenience, I?d say it?s a great tool to keep around if you want to stay on top of carpet care.

img 2/5.0 03, Apr 2024

Left My Carpet Wet

I had to open all the windows and run a fan for hours. The machine didn?t suck out enough water. Wouldn?t use again for a big room.

img 2/5.0 23, Mar 2024

Did Half the Job

It got rid of some dirt, sure, but the high-traffic areas still look grimy. For how long it took, I expected better results.

img 4/5.0 14, Mar 2024

Solid Cleaning, Slightly Bulky

I tried Rug Doctor for the first time last weekend and was happy with how well it cleaned. The machine is on the bulky side and kind of loud, but the performance made up for it. It lifted some old stains in the hallway and made the carpets look much brighter overall. The rental process was smooth, and it didn?t take long to get started. I used the pet formula, which seemed to help with lingering odors. For a DIY option, this really delivered. It?s not perfect, but it did exactly what I needed at a fair price.

img 5/5.0 03, Mar 2024

Fresh Carpets Again!

My living room carpet hadn?t been cleaned in years. This machine brought it back to life. Impressive cleaning for a rental unit.

img 4/5.0 17, Feb 2024

Simple and Effective

I didn?t need anything fancy, just something that works. Rug Doctor delivered. It got my rugs looking decent again without calling a pro.

img 1/5.0 09, Feb 2024

Frustrating to Use

Very clunky and hard to maneuver around corners. The cord got tangled constantly and the machine felt heavy. Just not user-friendly.

img 5/5.0 04, Feb 2024

Great Value for DIY Cleaning

This machine saved me from paying for professional carpet cleaning. It was easy to rent, and the directions were straightforward. I cleaned two bedrooms and a hallway and was amazed at how dirty the water got?clearly it pulled up a lot. The carpets dried fairly quickly and smelled fresher too. I like that I could take my time and go over trouble spots. It's a bit heavy to move around, but manageable. Overall, it?s a really cost-effective option for deep cleaning your carpets yourself. I plan on doing this a couple times a year now.

img 5/5.0 30, Jan 2024

Impressed with the Deep Clean

I used the Rug Doctor to clean my living room carpet, and it worked better than I expected. Years of pet stains and foot traffic had left it looking dull, but after just one pass, the difference was noticeable. The machine was easy to set up, and it didn?t leave the carpet soaking wet. I?m glad I didn?t hire a professional service because this gave great results at a much lower cost. It was a little loud, but that?s a small trade-off for how clean everything turned out. I?ll definitely rent it again when needed.

img 1/5.0 28, Jan 2024

Didn?t Work on Smells

I was most concerned about the lingering odor in my carpet from pets and kids, and unfortunately, Rug Doctor didn?t help much. The machine removed some surface dust, but the smell remained even after using their pet cleaning formula. I ended up buying an extra deodorizer and still couldn?t mask the scent completely. Also, the machine felt outdated and super heavy. Carrying it into the house was tough, and pushing it around was even worse. The water tank is small, so you?re constantly running back and forth. For all the work, the carpet looked a little cleaner, but it didn?t feel like a real deep clean. Honestly, it was disappointing. I thought I could save money by not hiring a professional, but this just added stress to my weekend. If you're dealing with odors or more than light dust, Rug Doctor may not be your best option. I wouldn?t use it again.

img 2/5.0 27, Jan 2024

Barely Any Difference

I followed all the directions, used the recommended Rug Doctor solution, and cleaned slowly and thoroughly?and I still couldn?t tell much difference in the carpet afterward. Sure, the water in the tank was dirty, but visually, the carpet didn?t look brighter or fresher. A few light stains remained exactly the same. I tried going over them twice, but no improvement. The machine itself felt clunky and outdated, and it leaked slightly when I emptied the dirty water. It also left lines in the carpet where the wheels passed, which didn?t look great once dry. The entire cleaning process took over three hours for one small living room, and it simply wasn?t worth it. I think Rug Doctor might be okay for people who already have fairly clean carpets and want a maintenance clean?but if you?re hoping to remove serious dirt or give your carpets a noticeable refresh, don?t count on it.

img 2/5.0 26, Jan 2024

Cleaned Some, Missed Most

I had a mixed experience with Rug Doctor. On the plus side, it did make the carpet look a little cleaner in high-traffic areas. But most of the deeper stains didn?t budge, no matter how slowly I passed the machine over them. It felt like the suction just wasn?t strong enough. The machine was pretty bulky, so I had a hard time moving it between rooms and especially up the stairs. I also didn?t like how wet the carpets were afterward?it took more than 24 hours to dry, even with fans. Returning the machine was also a hassle, with a long wait and no one around to check it in. Overall, it wasn?t a disaster, but I can?t say I?d rent it again. It took hours to do what I hoped would be a simple cleaning, and the results didn?t justify the effort. I expected more power and better usability.

img 1/5.0 25, Jan 2024

Too Much Trouble for Too Little

I rented a Rug Doctor to try and clean the carpets in my small house, thinking I could knock it out in a day. Big mistake. The machine was clunky and constantly needed attention?filling, emptying, adjusting. It didn?t seem to have strong suction, so the carpets stayed wet long after I finished. Even worse, it barely lifted any of the stains I was targeting. I ended up having to go back over many of them by hand. The noise was also intense?I could barely hear anything while running it. By the time I returned the machine, I felt like I?d run a marathon with very little to show for it. If your carpets are lightly used, maybe it?s okay. But for deep cleaning or pet messes, this machine just doesn?t cut it. I won?t rent it again. I?ll either try a different cleaner or bite the bullet and hire professionals.

img 2/5.0 24, Jan 2024

Worked, but Not Well Enough

I had hoped the Rug Doctor would deep clean the carpet in our apartment, especially with the pet hair and mild staining. While it did clean the surface a little, the results were far from impressive. The machine was difficult to push, especially in corners, and it missed spots even after several slow passes. It also didn?t do well on the edges or around furniture legs. Drying time was excessive, and I had to keep windows open for over a day to fully air everything out. The smell from the cleaner lingered longer than expected too?it wasn?t awful, just not pleasant. I think it?s fine for very light maintenance but not for anything more demanding. The process was time-consuming and physically exhausting. I expected a better outcome for the work involved. For the price, and the hassle of pickup and return, I don?t think I?ll be renting it again anytime soon.

img 1/5.0 23, Jan 2024

Malfunctioned Halfway Through

I was really disappointed with my Rug Doctor rental experience. Everything was fine at first, but about halfway through my living room, the machine stopped spraying water. I tried turning it off and back on, checking the tank, and cleaning the nozzles?nothing worked. I couldn?t finish the job, and I had to drag a wet, half-cleaned carpet for hours before giving up. The worst part was when I returned the unit and the store wouldn?t refund me or even offer a replacement. I ended up scrubbing the rest of the carpet by hand. I understand machines can have issues, but there should be better customer support for these situations. I wasted time, energy, and money. It made my carpets look worse in some areas because it cleaned unevenly. This was my first time using Rug Doctor, and it will probably be my last. The risk of equipment failure just isn?t worth it.

img 2/5.0 22, Jan 2024

Too Loud and Inconvenient

The Rug Doctor machine I rented was extremely loud?louder than I expected. I had to wear earplugs because the sound got irritating quickly. On top of that, the machine was heavy and awkward to push, especially through thicker carpet. It pulled up some dirt, but not enough to justify all the hassle. I ended up going over the same spots two or three times just to see a minor difference. The hose attachment was short and difficult to use on stairs, which was frustrating. Also, the machine splashed a bit when emptying the dirty tank, so cleanup was messier than I?d like. It took nearly all day to do two rooms and a hallway. I understand it?s a rental, but I still expected better performance. This might be okay if you just want a light freshen-up, but for serious stains or older carpets, it?s not very effective. Won?t rent it again.

img 2/5.0 13, Jan 2024

Not for Deep Stains

Light surface cleaning is all it seems to do. Any older or darker stains didn?t budge at all, even after multiple passes.

img 5/5.0 06, Jan 2024

Great for Pet Homes

As a dog owner, I?m happy with how this cleaned up muddy paw prints and hair. Easy to use and returned everything clean. Definitely helpful.

img 1/5.0 31, Dec 2023

Broke Down After 10 Minutes

The machine stopped working midway through cleaning. Lights flickered and then nothing. Waste of time dragging it home and setting it up.

img 4/5.0 20, Dec 2023

Satisfied Overall

Did what it promised. Took two passes over some high-traffic areas, but cleaned them up well. I'd recommend it if you're willing to put in a little effort.

img 5/5.0 10, Dec 2023

Surprisingly Professional Results for a Rental

I was skeptical about getting professional-level cleaning from a machine I picked up at the grocery store, but Rug Doctor proved me wrong. I needed a deep clean before putting my condo on the market and didn?t want to spend hundreds on a cleaning service. I rented the Rug Doctor for a weekend and cleaned all the carpets in one day. It handled everything?high-traffic dirt, coffee spills, and even makeup stains in the bedroom. The drying time was reasonable, and I appreciated how the machine didn?t leave the carpets soaking wet like others I?ve tried. The end result was a fresh-looking home that showed well for open houses. I even had one potential buyer ask if the carpet was new. That made me laugh. If you're willing to put in a little elbow grease, this machine delivers professional-grade results without the professional price tag. Totally worth the effort.

img 2/5.0 04, Dec 2023

Not Great for Older Carpets

I was hoping Rug Doctor would give my old carpet a second life, but sadly it didn?t make much difference. The machine struggled with deeper stains, even after multiple passes. It cleaned the surface a bit, but anything beyond light dirt stayed put. The carpet also felt very wet afterward, and it took nearly two days to dry completely. I used fans and opened windows, but the moisture still lingered. It also left some areas looking streaky, like it cleaned unevenly. For the amount of work it took?moving furniture, dragging the machine around, refilling tanks?it didn?t feel worth it. I wouldn?t say it?s totally useless, but it definitely didn?t live up to the hype. I think it?s more suited for people with fairly new carpets and light use. Mine needed a deeper, more thorough clean. Next time, I?ll probably spend the extra money on a professional service to get real results.

img 5/5.0 25, Nov 2023

Worked Better Than I Thought

I didn?t expect it to work this well. Picked up years of dirt and stains. Takes a little patience, but totally worth the time.

img 5/5.0 13, Nov 2023

Cleaned Years of Neglect in One Afternoon

I?ll admit it?my carpets were pretty gross. Years of not cleaning them properly caught up with me, and I finally rented a Rug Doctor as a last-ditch effort before replacing them. I honestly didn?t have high hopes, but the results were seriously impressive. The machine itself was straightforward to operate and had decent maneuverability, even in tight spaces. I used the recommended solution and took my time going over the worst areas twice. The water tank filled with dark brown water, which was oddly satisfying. After a full day of cleaning and drying, my carpet looked like it had a second chance. It wasn?t completely new-looking, but the improvement was dramatic. I saved myself the cost of new flooring and feel a lot better about having guests over now. Definitely recommend Rug Doctor if your carpets are in rough shape but you're not ready to rip them out yet.

img 2/5.0 08, Nov 2023

Felt Like a Waste

I honestly didn?t see much improvement in the carpet. It made the surface look slightly better but didn?t help with smells or deeper dirt.

img 2/5.0 01, Nov 2023

Mediocre Cleaning, Too Wet

I used the Rug Doctor to clean two bedrooms and a hallway, and unfortunately, I wasn?t thrilled with how it turned out. While it did lift some dirt, the results weren?t nearly as good as I?d hoped. The machine left the carpet very wet, and it took over 24 hours for everything to fully dry?even with fans and open windows. That caused a musty smell that lingered for days. Also, the tank design isn?t very convenient. You have to refill and empty too often, and it?s easy to spill. The unit I rented was also a little worn out, so I wasn?t sure it was performing at full capacity. For the amount of time and energy I put into cleaning, I don?t feel like I got enough value back. It?s okay for a quick refresh, maybe, but not for a deep clean. I?ll be trying other options next time. This wasn?t it.

img 1/5.0 31, Oct 2023

More Work Than It?s Worth

I wanted to love Rug Doctor, but it ended up being more stressful than helpful. The machine was incredibly noisy and difficult to push across my carpet. Even after a full clean, I couldn?t see much difference. Some spots looked exactly the same, while others just appeared damp and discolored. I had to blot a few areas manually with towels afterward because it didn?t extract enough water. The rental experience was also disappointing?the person at the counter didn?t explain anything, and the machine was slightly dirty when I got it. For all the bending, lifting, dragging, and stopping to refill, I expected at least visibly cleaner carpets. It didn?t deliver. I don?t mind a little DIY work, but this felt like way too much effort for mediocre results. I?ll go back to using a cleaning service. At least then I won?t spend my weekend wrestling a machine and getting mediocre results.

Machine Was Dirty on Pickup

Picked up a unit and it was already full of grime and hair. Grossed me out before I even started cleaning. Returned it right away.

Reliable and Sturdy

This machine worked great for my apartment carpets. Stains came out better than I expected. It?s a bit loud, but it works. Would use again.

Perfect for Pet Owners

As someone with two large dogs and light beige carpet, I was desperate for a cleaner that could tackle fur, dirt, and those mysterious pet odors. I gave Rug Doctor a try after seeing it recommended online, and it really came through. I rented the machine from my local store and used their pet-specific solution. I expected basic surface cleaning, but it went deeper than that. Stains I?d ignored for months finally lifted, and the smell in the room noticeably improved. It also picked up a surprising amount of dog hair, which is something my vacuum always struggled with. The process did take a bit of time?around 2?3 hours for my downstairs?but the results were worth it. Plus, it was way more affordable than scheduling a professional service. My home feels cleaner, smells better, and looks brighter. For pet households, Rug Doctor is a really solid option to keep things fresh.

Poor Suction Power

It laid down plenty of water but didn?t pull much back up. My carpet stayed soggy for hours. I wouldn?t recommend using it without a strong fan afterward.

Best DIY Carpet Cleaner I?ve Tried

I?ve rented other carpet cleaners before, but Rug Doctor is by far the most effective. I used it in my two-bedroom apartment after moving out. Between pets and day-to-day mess, the carpets were in rough shape. This machine handled it like a pro. It pulled up dirt and stains I thought were permanent. It?s satisfying (and a bit gross) to see how dirty the water tank gets?that?s how you know it?s working. The instructions were easy to follow, and I didn?t feel overwhelmed at any point. The machine is a bit heavy but rolls smoothly on carpet. I even used the handheld attachment for the couch, which worked surprisingly well. I dropped it off the same day, and the whole process?from pickup to clean to return?was simple and smooth. I?m glad this option exists for people who want to clean things themselves without shelling out for a professional.

Barely Lifted Surface Dirt

I rented Rug Doctor thinking it would handle some old food stains and foot traffic areas, but it didn?t do much. It sprayed water and made noise, sure, but I couldn?t tell it had done much cleaning. Some high-traffic spots looked exactly the same afterward. The machine also left behind a lot of moisture, so I had to open windows and use fans to avoid a musty smell. The whole thing took much longer than I expected. I was constantly refilling and emptying the tanks, which added more hassle. It?s a decent product in theory, but the performance just wasn?t there. If you?re expecting professional-quality results, you?ll be disappointed. I might use it again for quick touch-ups, but for deeper cleaning? Definitely not. I wish I hadn?t spent so much time and effort setting it up just to be let down by the results. Rug Doctor just didn?t cut it for me.

Good for the Price

For what it costs to rent, Rug Doctor gives good value. My carpets definitely looked better afterward. Setup was a little messy, but nothing major.

Brought My Old Carpet Back to Life

I wasn?t expecting miracles, but Rug Doctor came pretty close. I have light-colored carpet that's almost 10 years old and has seen its fair share of pets, kids, spills, and foot traffic. I decided to rent a Rug Doctor before hosting family for the holidays, and I?m honestly impressed. The machine was a bit bulky to get in the door, but once I got started, it was surprisingly easy to use. I did two full passes and couldn?t believe how much dirt it pulled out. The carpet dried within a few hours, and the smell was fresh?not chemical or fake. Some older spots are still faintly visible, but overall the room looked significantly better. It saved me from hiring a professional cleaner, which I?ve done before at twice the cost. This gave me the same results for way less. I?ll definitely be using Rug Doctor again.

Overhyped and Underperforms

After seeing the advertisements and reading online reviews, I thought Rug Doctor would be a great budget option. Unfortunately, it fell short. The machine was bulky and loud, and even after doing multiple slow passes with the recommended solution, the stains remained. The carpet felt sticky afterward, almost like the soap wasn?t rinsed properly. I even tried diluting the solution and re-cleaning the spots, but the results didn?t improve. I also had to refill the clean water tank and empty the dirty one more often than I expected, which slowed everything down. The process was exhausting and left my carpet only slightly cleaner than before. For the time and effort, I expected better. This might work for light maintenance, but it?s not up for the task of deep cleaning or heavily used carpets. Honestly, I regret not spending a little more on a professional. It would?ve saved me a whole day.

Did the Job Well

I needed something to handle my kid?s juice spills. Rug Doctor did a good job. Some scrubbing was still required, but it cleaned most stains effectively.

img 2/5.0 06, Aug 2023

Too Much Work for Results

I had to go over the same spot multiple times to see a difference. It felt like more effort than it was worth. I expected better for the price.

img 2/5.0 29, Jul 2023

Unimpressed with the Outcome

I followed every step, but the carpet didn?t look much different. Maybe it works better on lightly used floors, but not mine.

img 1/5.0 20, Jul 2023

Machine Leaked Everywhere

The machine started leaking halfway through use, soaking my carpet. I had to stop and clean up the mess. Not a great experience and definitely not worth the hassle.

img 1/5.0 12, Jul 2023

Returned It Early

I didn?t even finish cleaning my first room before deciding to return the Rug Doctor. The machine kept shutting off and wouldn?t dispense the cleaning solution consistently. I had to go over the same spot several times just to get it damp, which completely defeated the purpose. Customer service wasn?t helpful?they just told me to bring it back. I wasted an afternoon and didn?t get any of my carpet cleaned. On top of that, the machine was already dirty when I picked it up, and it smelled like mildew. Not sure if they?re supposed to clean them between rentals, but clearly this one wasn?t. I wouldn?t recommend this to anyone. Even if you do get a machine that works, it seems like more trouble than it?s worth. I really wanted this to be an affordable alternative to hiring someone, but now I?m stuck doing cleanup with no results.

Not Bad at All

It?s a decent option if you don?t want to hire a professional. Took a bit of effort, but my carpets looked noticeably cleaner afterward. Rental process was easy too.

img 5/5.0 26, Jun 2023

Pleasantly Surprised

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much, but Rug Doctor impressed me. It lifted stains I thought were permanent. It?s a little bulky, but the results made up for it. Would use again for sure.

img 2/5.0 18, Jun 2023

Not Worth the Effort

I was really hoping this would save me money, but honestly, it just gave me a sore back. The Rug Doctor was incredibly heavy and awkward to move. I had trouble fitting it into my car and even more trouble navigating it around furniture. I followed the instructions closely, but it didn?t clean evenly and left streaks all over the carpet. Some areas looked darker after drying. It also left behind a strong chemical smell that didn?t go away for a couple of days. The water tanks had to be emptied constantly, which added more time and mess. I expected a more powerful clean based on the marketing, but this didn?t deliver. It felt like I spent a whole day fighting with a machine only to get average results. If you have more than one room to clean, I?d seriously consider going with a professional instead. This DIY option isn?t for everyone.

img 2/5.0 10, Jun 2023

Didn?t Meet Expectations

I rented one expecting a deep clean, but it barely touched the older stains. It left the carpet damp and didn?t suck up water properly. A bit disappointing overall.

img 1/5.0 01, Jun 2023

Not Pet-Friendly Enough

It didn?t do much for pet hair or odors. Carpets still felt dirty after. Ended up scrubbing with my own cleaner afterward.

img 4/5.0 27, May 2023

Cleans Well, Bit Noisy

It worked really well, even if it sounded like a jet engine. Not a big deal, though. My carpet looks much better.

img 1/5.0 20, May 2023

Didn?t Work as Expected

I had an old Rug Doctor experience years ago that went well, so I figured I?d give it another shot. Unfortunately, this time was nothing like before. The machine I rented had low suction, didn?t dispense water properly, and left behind soap residue. I followed all the instructions and used Rug Doctor?s own cleaner, but my carpets still looked dingy. I had to manually blot several spots with towels just to avoid water pooling. It also made a strange noise while running, and I wasn?t confident the machine was even functioning correctly. I tried calling support, but no one answered. After all that time and effort, I barely noticed a difference in the appearance of my carpet. Honestly, this rental felt like a waste of money. I really wanted this to be a convenient solution, but it turned out to be a major letdown. I won?t be renting it again.

img 2/5.0 16, May 2023

Felt Like a Hassle

Between setup, cleaning, and drying, it turned into an all-day project. The machine didn?t even deliver great results.

img 4/5.0 08, May 2023

Handy for Weekend Cleaning

Picked one up for a weekend deep clean. It worked better than I expected. Some spots needed going over twice, but overall it did a solid job. Instructions could be clearer, though.

img 2/5.0 30, Apr 2023

Machine Was Too Bulky and Inefficient

I tried using Rug Doctor to deep-clean my living room carpet, and I honestly don?t think it was worth the trouble. The machine is huge and heavy, which made it hard to push around and store during use. It?s not ideal for people with small apartments or tight spaces. Even with effort, the cleaning was just average. I had to go over the same areas multiple times, and even then some stains didn?t budge. It left the carpet quite wet, and I had to run fans for hours afterward. Also, it was hard to clean along the edges of the walls. The whole process took most of my afternoon, and the results were underwhelming. It?s just too much work for what you get. If you have serious stains or high-traffic carpet, I would look for a different solution. Rug Doctor is overhyped in my opinion. Wouldn?t rent it again.

img 1/5.0 23, Apr 2023

Machine Didn?t Work Right

Something was off with the suction. It left soapy water in spots and didn?t clean evenly. I expected a lot more.

img 5/5.0 17, Apr 2023

Made Cleaning Easier

I used to dread cleaning carpets, but Rug Doctor actually made it manageable. The machine was simple to use and handled the pet stains well. I'm not sure it's perfect, but it's definitely saved me money on professional cleaners.

img 5/5.0 08, Apr 2023

Solid Performance

I?ve tried a few carpet cleaners before. This one worked the best for me. Pretty straightforward process and effective results.
