Better Off Hiring a Pro
After reading some solid reviews, I figured Rug Doctor was a smart option for cleaning my place before hosting guests. I was wrong. The machine was bulky and difficult to maneuver in tight spaces. Even after two passes, most of the stains were still visible, and the carpet looked uneven. It left behind too much moisture, so my whole place smelled musty for a day. I used the recommended cleaning solution, followed instructions carefully, and still didn?t get good results. The stairs were especially hard to clean with the short hose attachment. I feel like I wasted hours and didn?t accomplish much. The machine might be fine for light touch-ups, but it definitely can?t compete with a professional cleaning service. The whole process was tiring and disappointing. I?ll probably never rent it again. Sometimes spending a little more upfront saves you a lot of stress in the end.

Very Poor Results and Time Consuming
I spent nearly an entire Saturday trying to clean my carpets with Rug Doctor, and honestly, I wish I hadn?t bothered. The machine was extremely loud and left streaks across the carpet instead of a consistent clean. I went over areas multiple times and saw little to no improvement. Some parts of the carpet even looked worse afterward?darker and more matted. Also, the machine leaked near the handle which left puddles in my living room. Setup and breakdown took way too long, and I had to call customer service twice for help getting the tank attached correctly. I ended up feeling frustrated and exhausted. This was supposed to be an easier and cheaper alternative to professional carpet cleaning, but it turned out to be a lot more work with much worse results. Save your time, honestly?it?s just not worth the trouble, especially if you?re dealing with older or stained carpets.

Not Great for Pet Owners
I tried Rug Doctor hoping it would help freshen up my carpet and remove some lingering pet odors. While it did manage to lift a few surface stains, it didn?t really do much for the smell, and I still noticed fur embedded in the carpet after cleaning. I used their pet-specific formula, thinking it would be more effective, but honestly it felt no different than a generic cleaner. The machine was heavy and awkward to move from room to room, especially on stairs. The water tank also fills up too fast, so I had to keep stopping to empty and refill it. Overall, I think this machine is okay for quick refreshes but not for deep cleaning, especially if you have pets. It didn?t meet my expectations, and for all the effort it required, I probably should?ve just scheduled a professional service instead. Won?t be using it again anytime soon.

Machine Malfunctioned Mid-Clean
I rented a Rug Doctor to clean my apartment carpets before moving out. Things started off okay, but about 20 minutes into cleaning, the machine just stopped spraying water. I double-checked everything?water level, plug, hoses?and still couldn?t get it to work. I ended up having to finish the job manually, which defeated the purpose. Returning it was frustrating too; the clerk offered no refund or credit even though the machine clearly wasn?t working properly. The whole thing was a waste of time and money. It?s disappointing because I?ve used older versions of Rug Doctor years ago without issues, but this time around was just a mess. I wouldn?t recommend relying on it for important cleanups. Maybe I just got a bad unit, but the lack of customer support made it worse. I won?t be taking the chance again. I expected better from a well-known brand like Rug Doctor.

Disappointed with Cleaning Power
I had high hopes for Rug Doctor after seeing good reviews, but my experience was underwhelming. The machine looked sturdy and worked fine initially, but the actual cleaning results didn?t live up to expectations. I followed the instructions, took my time, and even used the brand?s own cleaning solution. Still, many stains?especially near the hallway and couch?remained. The machine left my carpet wetter than expected, which made drying take a full day. It?s also really loud and not easy to maneuver in tight corners. Emptying the dirty tank was a bit messy too. I think it might work well for light cleaning or maintenance, but if you?re hoping to revive older carpets or get rid of deeper stains, don?t count on it. It was a lot of work for not much reward. I?ll probably go back to hiring a professional cleaning service next time instead. Just not worth the hassle.

Brought the Carpet Back to Life

Definitely Helped with Pet Messes
With two cats and a toddler, our carpets needed serious help. The Rug Doctor did a great job cleaning up old stains and mystery smells. I liked that it was fairly simple to figure out and didn?t make a huge mess during setup or use. It?s a little tiring to push around for long periods, but nothing too bad. The carpet looked way better after, and even our cat allergies seemed to settle down. I wouldn?t say it?s magical, but it?s effective enough that I?ll probably rent it again every few months. Easy Rental, Great Cleaning Power
I rented the Rug Doctor from my local store and was surprised by how powerful it was. I used it on both my carpet and a fabric couch. Brought Back the Original Color
My beige carpet had turned kind of gray over time, and I didn?t realize how dirty it was until I used Rug Doctor. I used Rug Doctor on some light stains from pets and general traffic. It did a good job overall. Not every stain came out 100%, but there was a clear improvement, and the carpet looked brighter. Surprised by How Well It Worked
I decided to try Rug Doctor after seeing positive reviews, and I?m glad I did. The cleaner picked up dirt I didn?t even realize was there. I used it in the living room and bedroom, and both came out looking much better. The drying time was decent, and the smell left behind was clean, not chemical. Setup was pretty quick, though it took some effort to carry it upstairs. Still, the quality of the clean made it worth it. For a rental machine, this performed way better than I expected. Carpet Looked Nearly New Again
I was amazed by how well Rug Doctor worked on my old beige carpet. It had years of built-up grime and pet stains, and I wasn?t sure anything could help at this point. Did a Nice Job for Rental Unit
I used Rug Doctor to clean the carpet in a rental apartment before moving out. It picked up a lot of dirt and made the place look much better. I tried Rug Doctor for the first time last weekend and was happy with how well it cleaned. The machine is on the bulky side and kind of loud, but the performance made up for it. Didn?t Work on Smells
I was most concerned about the lingering odor in my carpet from pets and kids, and unfortunately, Rug Doctor didn?t help much. The machine removed some surface dust, but the smell remained even after using their pet cleaning formula. I ended up buying an extra deodorizer and still couldn?t mask the scent completely. Also, the machine felt outdated and super heavy. Carrying it into the house was tough, and pushing it around was even worse. The water tank is small, so you?re constantly running back and forth. For all the work, the carpet looked a little cleaner, but it didn?t feel like a real deep clean. Honestly, it was disappointing. I thought I could save money by not hiring a professional, but this just added stress to my weekend. If you're dealing with odors or more than light dust, Rug Doctor may not be your best option. I wouldn?t use it again.

Barely Any Difference
I followed all the directions, used the recommended Rug Doctor solution, and cleaned slowly and thoroughly?and I still couldn?t tell much difference in the carpet afterward. Sure, the water in the tank was dirty, but visually, the carpet didn?t look brighter or fresher. A few light stains remained exactly the same. I tried going over them twice, but no improvement. The machine itself felt clunky and outdated, and it leaked slightly when I emptied the dirty water. It also left lines in the carpet where the wheels passed, which didn?t look great once dry. The entire cleaning process took over three hours for one small living room, and it simply wasn?t worth it. I think Rug Doctor might be okay for people who already have fairly clean carpets and want a maintenance clean?but if you?re hoping to remove serious dirt or give your carpets a noticeable refresh, don?t count on it.

I had a mixed experience with Rug Doctor. On the plus side, it did make the carpet look a little cleaner in high-traffic areas. But most of the deeper stains didn?t budge, no matter how slowly I passed the machine over them. It felt like the suction just wasn?t strong enough. The machine was pretty bulky, so I had a hard time moving it between rooms and especially up the stairs. I also didn?t like how wet the carpets were afterward?it took more than 24 hours to dry, even with fans. Returning the machine was also a hassle, with a long wait and no one around to check it in. Overall, it wasn?t a disaster, but I can?t say I?d rent it again. It took hours to do what I hoped would be a simple cleaning, and the results didn?t justify the effort. I expected more power and better usability.

Too Much Trouble for Too Little
I rented a Rug Doctor to try and clean the carpets in my small house, thinking I could knock it out in a day. Big mistake. The machine was clunky and constantly needed attention?filling, emptying, adjusting. It didn?t seem to have strong suction, so the carpets stayed wet long after I finished. Even worse, it barely lifted any of the stains I was targeting. I ended up having to go back over many of them by hand. The noise was also intense?I could barely hear anything while running it. By the time I returned the machine, I felt like I?d run a marathon with very little to show for it. If your carpets are lightly used, maybe it?s okay. But for deep cleaning or pet messes, this machine just doesn?t cut it. I won?t rent it again. I?ll either try a different cleaner or bite the bullet and hire professionals.

Worked, but Not Well Enough
I had hoped the Rug Doctor would deep clean the carpet in our apartment, especially with the pet hair and mild staining. While it did clean the surface a little, the results were far from impressive. I used fans and opened windows, but the moisture still lingered. It also left some areas looking streaky, like it cleaned unevenly. For the amount of work it took?moving furniture, dragging the machine around, refilling tanks?it didn?t feel worth it. I wouldn?t say it?s totally useless, but it definitely didn?t live up to the hype. I think it?s more suited for people with fairly new carpets and light use. Mine needed a deeper, more thorough clean. Next time, I?ll probably spend the extra money on a professional service to get real results.

I honestly didn?t have high hopes, but the results were seriously impressive. The machine itself was straightforward to operate and had decent maneuverability, even in tight spaces. I used the recommended solution and took my time going over the worst areas twice. The water tank filled with dark brown water, which was oddly satisfying. After a full day of cleaning and drying, my carpet looked like it had a second chance. It wasn?t completely new-looking, but the improvement was dramatic. I saved myself the cost of new flooring and feel a lot better about having guests over now. Definitely recommend Rug Doctor if your carpets are in rough shape but you're not ready to rip them out yet.

Mediocre Cleaning, Too Wet
I used the Rug Doctor to clean two bedrooms and a hallway, and unfortunately, I wasn?t thrilled with how it turned out. While it did lift some dirt, the results weren?t nearly as good as I?d hoped. The machine left the carpet very wet, and it took over 24 hours for everything to fully dry?even with fans and open windows. That caused a musty smell that lingered for days. Also, the tank design isn?t very convenient. You have to refill and empty too often, and it?s easy to spill. The unit I rented was also a little worn out, so I wasn?t sure it was performing at full capacity. For the amount of time and energy I put into cleaning, I don?t feel like I got enough value back. It?s okay for a quick refresh, maybe, but not for a deep clean. I?ll be trying other options next time. This wasn?t it.

More Work Than It?s Worth
I wanted to love Rug Doctor, but it ended up being more stressful than helpful. The machine was incredibly noisy and difficult to push across my carpet. Even after a full clean, I couldn?t see much difference. Some spots looked exactly the same, while others just appeared damp and discolored. I had to blot a few areas manually with towels afterward because it didn?t extract enough water. The rental experience was also disappointing?the person at the counter didn?t explain anything, and the machine was slightly dirty when I got it. For all the bending, lifting, dragging, and stopping to refill, I expected at least visibly cleaner carpets. It didn?t deliver. I don?t mind a little DIY work, but this felt like way too much effort for mediocre results. I?ll go back to using a cleaning service. At least then I won?t spend my weekend wrestling a machine and getting mediocre results.

Barely Lifted Surface Dirt
I rented Rug Doctor thinking it would handle some old food stains and foot traffic areas, but it didn?t do much. It sprayed water and made noise, sure, but I couldn?t tell it had done much cleaning. Some high-traffic spots looked exactly the same afterward. The machine also left behind a lot of moisture, so I had to open windows and use fans to avoid a musty smell. The whole thing took much longer than I expected. I was constantly refilling and emptying the tanks, which added more hassle. It?s a decent product in theory, but the performance just wasn?t there. If you?re expecting professional-quality results, you?ll be disappointed. I might use it again for quick touch-ups, but for deeper cleaning? Definitely not. I wish I hadn?t spent so much time and effort setting it up just to be let down by the results. Rug Doctor just didn?t cut it for me.

Overhyped and Underperforms
After seeing the advertisements and reading online reviews, I thought Rug Doctor would be a great budget option. Unfortunately, it fell short. Returned It Early
I didn?t even finish cleaning my first room before deciding to return the Rug Doctor. The machine kept shutting off and wouldn?t dispense the cleaning solution consistently. I had to go over the same spot several times just to get it damp, which completely defeated the purpose. Customer service wasn?t helpful?they just told me to bring it back. I wasted an afternoon and didn?t get any of my carpet cleaned. On top of that, the machine was already dirty when I picked it up, and it smelled like mildew. Not sure if they?re supposed to clean them between rentals, but clearly this one wasn?t. I wouldn?t recommend this to anyone. Even if you do get a machine that works, it seems like more trouble than it?s worth. I really wanted this to be an affordable alternative to hiring someone, but now I?m stuck doing cleanup with no results.

Not Worth the Effort

Didn?t Work as Expected
I had an old Rug Doctor experience years ago that went well, so I figured I?d give it another shot. Unfortunately, this time was nothing like before. The machine I rented had low suction, didn?t dispense water properly, and left behind soap residue. I followed all the instructions and used Rug Doctor?s own cleaner, but my carpets still looked dingy. I had to manually blot several spots with towels just to avoid water pooling.
