Good for Emergencies

Not What Expected
I was extremely disappointed by the experience at my Oportun. They marketed approvals as taking place within minutes, but usually took longer than that. The interest rate was substantially higher than advertised and trying to reach the customer service team was very challenging indeed. It felt chaotic all the way, and by the time I had applied for the loan, I wished I hadn't lent money from them. I do not think I would be able to recommend their services to anybody.

Helpful in a Pinch
I needed emergency funds desperately, and Oportun came in when I really needed them. Their process in applying was quite easy, no hassles with so many papers to deal with. Hidden Fees
I agreed with Oportun when I lend from them. I didn't know the hidden fees they will be charging me; it would cost more than what I really expected. Customer service wasn't very helpful; that made things worse. The whole process took me far longer than I thought, and I felt they were being deceitful in their terms at first.

Very Hard to Work With
It was very frustrating to work with Oportun. While I jumped at the first chance to take out a loan, things quickly soured. Their customer service isn't around when you need it, and even when you do get to speak with someone, they don't do much for you. I have many complaints about their processing of payments, and if you're even one day late, their fees are very oppressive. None. They put me on hold for a really long time to sort stuff out. It seems like they didn't care enough to solve the problem, which made it all worse in the end. I would never suggest Oportun to someone who needs people to be available and respond with sense when being served as a customer.
