While El Cerrito Liquor has a decent selection of mainstream beers and wines, the craft beer selection is quite limited. I was hoping to find some more unique and local brews, but the options were mostly the standard national brands. This was a bit frustrating, as I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting craft beers. They do have a few IPAs and stouts, but the selection is nowhere near as diverse as some other stores in the area. If they expanded their craft beer offerings, I would definitely be a more frequent customer. Perhaps they could consider partnering with some local breweries to offer a wider variety. Unhelpful Staff
I asked one of the employees what this one whiskey was. They didn't know. I couldn't get them to give me a good description of what the whiskey would taste like, where it was made, nothing. I kind of found this a little odd, as one would think a liquor store staff would have some knowledge of what they sell. It would be more helpful if they gave some education to their staff about the kind of alcohol that they are offering. This way, it will enhance the customers' experience as well as simplify the search of the products the customer is looking for. The staff member simply shrugged and left me hanging in the air.

Store Layout Confusing
The store's layout is not very clear. It is not easy to find what you are looking for, and the aisles are not labeled. I spent a good amount of time wandering around looking for a particular type of vodka. A more organized and intuitive layout would really improve the shopping experience. Perhaps they could consider rearranging the shelves and adding clearer signage. This would make it much easier for customers to navigate the store and find what they need quickly. The disorganized layout, combined with the unhelpful staff, made my visit quite frustrating.

Limited Parking
Parking at El Cerrito Liquor can be a challenge. The parking lot is small and often crowded, making it difficult to find a spot. This can be especially frustrating during peak hours. Lack of Variety in Wine Selection
They have a fair number of wines, but the within the categories, not much variety. For instance, I wanted dry Riesling, and the store had one type. Wider options with each type would be great since different tastes suit different people. They could therefore consider increasing variations within popular varieties. The choice is limited coupled with the antique stock, meaning I would discourage anyone from coming to this particular store to acquire wine.

Poor Store Cleanliness
The store was not clean enough. On the shelves, there was a bit of dust. The floor hadn't been swept in quite a while. A cleaner and better-conditioned store environment will make the shopping experience much better. For a retailing business, especially one selling food and beverage products, cleaning and maintenance are a must. Unhygienic conditions, along with not very helpful staff, make me doubt the overall quality of the store.

No Online Ordering
El Cerrito Liquor does not allow online orders and home delivery. It is a significant drawback for those who are busy and have less time to visit the store in person. Online order facility is an alternative for many liquor stores, and I think El Cerrito Liquor should adopt this also. This would make it much easier for customers to purchase their favorite beverages. The lack of online ordering, combined with the limited parking, makes it less convenient to shop at this store.

Inconsistent Pricing
I noticed that some items displayed erratic changes in price. It is very challenging to budget and plan well for the purchases, knowing prices change at any given time. The non-alcoholic drinks provided here are few. This is a bit of a problem if those people don't drink but want something for the party or special gathering. No Loyalty Program
El Cerrito Liquor doesn't have a loyalty program. This would be an excellent means of rewarding returning customers and, thus, will likely make them keep coming to the store for their shopping. Most businesses use loyalty programs. I think this is something El Cerrito Liquor needs to look into doing. Overall, it isn't very enticing to shop here, given there's no loyalty program, among other reasons for the higher prices.

Poor Lighting
The lighting in the store is poor. They are very dim and do not let one see the labels on the bottles well. Better lighting will make it much easier to browse the selection, helping you find what you want. Perhaps they could upgrade the lighting in the store. Lack of Attention to Detail
There seems to lack attention to details at El Cerrito Liquor. For instance, starting from the aged inventory, not to mention how dirty the stores are. Apparently, they pay little heed to the little details that could significantly make a huge difference in their customers' experiences. Poor Communication Regarding Special Orders
I tried to special order a bottle of scotch that they didn't regularly carry. While the staff seemed helpful at first, the communication throughout the process was poor. I received no updates on the status of my order, and when I called to inquire, they seemed unsure of what had happened. It took several phone calls and a couple of weeks before I finally received the bottle. Improved communication regarding special orders would greatly enhance the customer experience. Perhaps a system of email updates or phone calls could be implemented to keep customers informed. Lack of Knowledge about Wine Regions
I asked a staff member about wines from a specific region in Italy, and they seemed completely unfamiliar with the area. They were unable to provide any suggestions or knowledge of what wines were typical of that region. If they knew more about the wine regions and varietals, this would be beneficial. Perhaps they could offer some training or educational resources to their employees. This would enable them to serve their customers better and make more knowledgeable recommendations. A little knowledge and even fewer wines of that region available made it not easy to pick what I needed.

Inadequate Temperature Control
Some were kept at room temperature, a few of those that should really be cellared at cooler temperatures. Poor storing can affect wine quality and its flavor. Controlled temperature is critical in maintaining wine integrity. Perhaps they could invest in better temperature-controlled storage for their wine selection. This would guarantee that the wines are being stored properly and maintaining quality. The poor temperature control, combined with the archaic inventory, makes me even less willing to buy wine from this particular store.

Unprofessional Staff Behavior
I was present during my visit when I heard a staff member expressing themselves badly and professionally towards another customer. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and gives a bad impression of the store. Professional and courteous behavior is a must for any business, especially one that depends on customer service. Maybe they should provide some customer service training to their employees so that all interactions are positive and respectful. Poorly Maintained Exterior

I have not noticed any engagement with the local community by El Cerrito Liquor. The other businesses around here are active in the community, attending the local events, and supporting local initiatives. Involvement with the community can help a company build customer relations and community sense. They should consider joining or sponsoring some events in the locality. That way, it shows commitment to the community and an even more appealing image for this store. And in total with other issues which I had and experienced here, it just gets me feeling further from this particular store.
