As others have noted, this is a scam. You are offered the service for $5 and then automatically enrolled for 24 months at (in my case) $65 a month. When I noticed on my credit card, four months in, I called Ask an Expert Online and spent 45 minutes with an agent insisting that I must have signed up myself, and eventually only allowing me to cancel by paying a $145 fee. The language was explicitly extortion. The agent told me that I could complain to the bank and BBB and claim fraud but that I would end up paying the whole 24 months subscription and that it was in my interests to agree to the $145 fee and get out of the rest. Then, at the end, in order to process the cancellation, they insisted that I send them an email saying that I had agreed to pay the fee in return for services. I felt like I was talking to the mob.
Bad experience
This is a scam site - They make you sign up for a $5.00 service fee and a hidden 24 month subscription. Got transferred to this company from Brother USA Printers. Figured it was legitimate. I asked the tech support guy if this was a one time charge, and he said yes, I just had to fill out the form he was going to send me. he must have sent me a 24 month subscription form. So now, They will not talk to me unless I fill out another form that says I have to sign up for another form for $5 service fee and another 24 month subscription to talk to them about the 1st fraudulent 24 month subscription. BTW - the Tech Support Person - gave me the wrong information (a Brother Printer Cartridge bracket) - I tried to get in contact with Askanexpertonline.com again, but could not get connected with anyone. I gave up. This was 4 months ago.
I found them online when trying to get an answer to a question. Site said charge is $2.00 and asked for my credit card. When paying my bill at the end of the month I found a charge of an additional $66.00 on the card. I thought ok, someone did get back to me and gave me an answer. I accepted it. A month later I get a message that my card was charged another $66.00 from them. Tried to phone them, someone from Just Answer said they could help me. He led me to the Just Answer site and told me to cancel the subscription, which I did. Then I was not done. He said I needed to cancel from Ask An Expert. He noted there was an automatic charge for 24 months. After more back and forth between him and me it did not seem to be resolved. He also said there would be a $69.00;cancellation charge. I told him I was done talking to him.
I went to Ask an Expert online and found there email support. Emailed them explaining the situation asking to cancel and refund me for latest charge. The email was rejected. Complete run around BS.
I phoned my credit card, explained the situation and cancelled the card.
The expert really took the time to walk through my question without making it feel rushed. The language was simple and the response felt tailored, not generic. I had a small issue understanding one part, but after a follow-up, they clarified it quickly. The overall vibe was friendly and supportive. Made me feel comfortable asking more questions.
