Order mix-ups spoiled experience

Walked in expecting a smooth morning pick-up. Instead, my drink arrived wrong?what should?ve been a cold-pressed juice came out warm and sweetened, not as requested. Staff seemed apologetic but the replacement took nearly 20 minutes, leaving me late. Seating was full, and the caf? felt cramped. The cultural d?cor is beautiful, yet it didn?t compensate for inefficiency. While the concept of celebrating Guatemala is solid, operational hiccups dampened comfort. I left more frustrated than refreshed.

A neighborhood staple

Ulew Coffee and Juice has quickly become one of my favorite places to relax and recharge. The atmosphere feels both cozy and intentional?soft lighting, colorful murals, and warm service all contribute to the experience. I love the way they combine Guatemalan flavors with a modern caf? setup. The horchata cold brew was absolutely amazing?smooth, just sweet enough, and served at the perfect temperature. The staff took their time walking me through the menu, which was really helpful on my first visit. It?s clear they care about their craft and want guests to enjoy not just the drinks, but the culture behind them. I've now been here several times and tried different juices and lattes?everything has felt high quality. It's a place where you feel welcome, whether you stay for ten minutes or two hours. A great find for anyone who loves coffee with heart and story.

Pleasant and artistic

The caf? interior is decorated beautifully with huipil fabrics and Indigenous symbols. The drinks are consistently good, especially the signature latte. Vegan snacks are tasty. Staff smile and assist kindly. A short wait now and then shows popularity, but worth the pause. Neighborhood gem in Boyle Heights.

Perfect for slow mornings

There?s something comforting about this place. Came in for a juice but ended up staying for breakfast and a second coffee. The staff didn?t rush anyone, and it felt peaceful to just sit and relax. The music was soft, and the environment made it easy to work on my laptop too. This place really hits that perfect Sunday vibe.

Fluctuating quality

At times, the food and drinks hit the mark?with fresh produce and caffeine kick. But sometimes coffee tastes burnt or juice tastes overly sweet. Consistency is lacking. The line was long but moved slowly. Staff apologized but seemed undertrained. Seating was limited; air circulation poor on busy days. A charming interior can?t mask variations in execution. The caf? community vibe is strong, but hunger or thirst relief may feel compromised when product wavers. Good intentions aren?t enough.

Noisy and not relaxing

Wanted to study here, but the music was loud and seating was hard to find. Left halfway through my drink.

img 2/5.0 23, Apr 2025

Crowded and confusing

On a weekend visit, space was packed and line backed up. Staff seemed flustered. My order arrived incomplete and wrong size. Had to give reminders several times. I like the cultural art and menu variety, but this visit felt uncomfortable. Drinks were okay once corrected but cold by then. Quality control lacking. Worth visiting when it's calmer, but expect delays at peak.

Good energy and tasty drinks

There's something inviting about Ulew Coffee and Juice. It might be the colors, the soft playlist in the background, or the sincere energy from the team behind the counter. I tried a spicy cacao drink and a pineapple-spinach juice?both packed with flavor and freshness. Everything feels intentional. Even the takeout cups have a nice design, and the packaging is eco-friendly, which I appreciate. The seating could be a bit more comfortable, but it's not a deal-breaker. It?s clearly a space built with love and pride, and that comes through in every sip. I think with a few more tweaks to space and service flow, they?ll be among the best. Still, for now, it's already one of my favorite stops when I need a healthy drink or a calm place to work for a while.

A colorful, mindful space

Visiting Ulew felt like stepping into a modern take on something ancestral. There?s a strong sense of cultural heritage here, from the drink recipes to the welcoming environment. I ordered a green juice and a small cinnamon latte. Both were fresh and comforting. The staff was upbeat and took the time to make sure everything came out just right. I even overheard them talking about sourcing ingredients locally and responsibly, which was great to hear. The only downside was the small seating area?it got pretty packed. Still, this place is full of personality and warmth. Looking forward to trying more of their unique combinations.

Waiting forever ruined it

The line moved slowly even though there weren?t many people. Coffee took 20 minutes. No apology, no update. Not ideal when you?re in a rush.

Beautiful setup with great juice

The ambiance really makes the experience here. The layout is welcoming and the music fits well with the space. I got a cold-pressed beet juice that was balanced and refreshing. Service was friendly and helpful without being pushy. Coffee smelled amazing too, might try that next time. Prices are decent for the quality you get. Will probably swing by weekly.

Authentic and inviting

Ulew?s menu features unique items like pressed pomegranate juice and vegan conchas. Each item feels made with care. The space celebrates Guatemalan culture through art, textiles and community events like Chapin Sundays. Service is caring and unhurried. The coffee has depth, and the food is fresh. Consistency is strong.

Mixed feelings

Drinks taste fine and pastries are decent. But a drink arrived lukewarm this time. Staff apologized immediately, which was considerate. D?cor is lovely and space cozy, but seating is limited on busy days. Juices remain standout. Good spot if expectations are modest.

Love their creative menu

Their menu is unique compared to other spots in town. They?ve really leaned into traditional Central American flavors and made them accessible. My favorite was the horchata cold brew?so creamy and comforting. The staff was kind and gave me some background on the drink. Left feeling energized and cared for. Definitely worth checking out.

Reliable pick-me-up spot

Juices are vibrant, coffee is bold. Small sandwiches like chimi sando are flavorful. The caf? is small but bright, with friendly staff. Crowds grow later in the day, but service remains efficient. Sometimes online orders are slightly off, but staff correct quickly. Good overall.

img 4/5.0 11, Dec 2024

Strong coffee and positive vibes

Their Guatemalan roast is something I haven?t found elsewhere?strong without being bitter. The staff made sure the order came out right, and the presentation was surprisingly nice. Seating inside is cozy and encourages conversation. Lots of small details make this place memorable. I?ll be recommending it to people who like something different from typical chain caf?s.

img 2/5.0 15, Nov 2024

Lacked flavor and clarity

The smoothie tasted watered down and didn?t match what was listed on the menu. Staff were polite but unsure about ingredients. Ambiance was nice but couldn?t save the experience.

img 3/5.0 03, Nov 2024

Good place, needs polish

Ulew has a strong foundation?a unique identity, friendly service, and a focus on fresh ingredients. I like their community-driven mission and creative drinks. My recent visit was nice overall, though a few things could be improved. I tried a matcha latte that was flavorful but slightly grainy. The wait time was a little long, even though the shop wasn?t too busy. Staff was apologetic and warm, but seemed under pressure. That said, I admire what they?re trying to build and I?d give them another chance. It?s clear there?s heart in what they do, and that makes a difference.

Calm and refreshing place

Walked in for a quick juice and stayed for the calm energy. The decor is warm, with touches of Guatemalan culture that give it personality. My ginger-based juice was strong, fresh, and exactly what I needed. The barista was kind and patient while I asked a few questions. Seating was a bit limited, but I found a cozy corner. Overall, a solid experience that made me want to come back.

img 5/5.0 21, Sep 2024

Beyond expectations

I didn?t expect much when I first walked in, but Ulew completely won me over. The barista greeted me warmly and helped me decide between a traditional latte or one of their house-made herbal drinks. I went with the chamomile-cinnamon blend and was blown away by how balanced and flavorful it was. The decor adds a personal touch?photos, indigenous prints, and a welcoming layout. I stayed for over an hour catching up on emails, and no one rushed me or made me feel like I had to leave. The wifi was solid, music wasn?t too loud, and the environment felt both productive and relaxing. You can tell a lot of thought goes into this space?not just the drinks, but the way people feel in it. I ended up taking a fresh juice home and that was delicious too. Will be coming back regularly now.

img 3/5.0 02, Sep 2024

Solid, with minor issues

Beverages are generally good?iced mocha and cold-pressed juices stand out. But sometimes order take-away misses a request. Music can be a bit loud. Still, environment is welcoming, and cultural d?cor feels deliberate. Staff seem kind but can be distracted during busy hours. Worth a try for curious palates.

img 1/5.0 19, Aug 2024

Not reliable for orders

Expected pick-up to be seamless; instead my sandwich came cold, juice lukewarm and staff seemed disorganized. They offered apologies but had to remake nearly everything. I waited nearly half hour extra. The d?cor with Mayan art remains attractive, but it doesn?t fix inefficiency. Given prices, such service confusion felt unacceptable. Other patrons seemed similarly frustrated. A cultural hub is nice, but I left hungry and annoyed. Hope they improve training and pace.

So much flavor and warmth

Ulew Coffee and Juice is one of those rare places that hits all the marks. The drinks are flavorful and health-focused, but what really keeps me coming back is the vibe. It?s welcoming, rooted in culture, and consistently thoughtful. The menu changes seasonally, and I always find something exciting. The tamarindo-cacao blend last month was one of the best drinks I?ve ever had. Staff always take the time to greet customers and explain anything unfamiliar on the menu. The music, the smell of fresh spices, and the vibrant visuals create a really special atmosphere. Highly value the intention and care put into this space?it feels like more than just a caf?. It?s a gathering place for wellness, culture, and good energy. Five stars all the way.

img 1/5.0 27, Jul 2024

Too many mistakes

Ordered online but still waited. Drink was wrong and sandwich missing sauce. I liked the concept, but service was careless this time.

img 5/5.0 25, Jun 2024

Culturally rich and inviting

Ulew feels like more than just a caf?it?s like a little piece of Guatemalan tradition tucked into the neighborhood. The murals are beautiful, and the drink menu is full of meaningful, natural ingredients. My tamarind-based juice was tart and delicious. Everyone working seemed passionate and informed. Great balance of culture and taste.

img 4/5.0 08, Jun 2024

Great flavor, calm spot

Drinks like the Guatemalan mocha deliver rich, deep flavor. Juices are bright and natural tasting. The setting is cozy and tastefully decorated. Staff greet customers warmly. Occasionally lines can form midday. But patience pays off. Location inside a mini-mall adds quirk but charm. I keep coming back.

img 2/5.0 30, May 2024

Underwhelming consistency

Visited twice over two weeks, and the second visit was noticeably worse. A juice felt overly diluted, without brightness. Staff appeared rushed and less engaged. Cup balance seemed off. The sandwich?promised crisp?was soggy. I?d come for cultural atmosphere, but inconsistent quality disappointed. Coffee was stale compared to earlier visit. Prices felt high for uneven execution. The caf?s ambitions are clear, but follow-through sometimes falters. While the first impression was solid, the return left me questioning whether I?d go back.

img 1/5.0 15, Apr 2024

Cluttered and chaotic

Tried to relax, but the space felt too cramped. Tables weren?t clean, and orders came out wrong at nearby tables too.

img 4/5.0 20, Mar 2024

Great for quick stops or longer stays

Whether you?re in a rush or want to hang out, Ulew works for both. I've done both and had great service each time. The carrot-pineapple juice is my go-to?it?s sweet with a nice zing. Plus, the layout gives a clear flow from entrance to counter to seating. Love that.

img 5/5.0 08, Mar 2024

Warm community caf?

This Guatemalan-run caf? feels personal and caring. Drinks?from lattes to pressed juices?are crafted thoughtfully. The wall art and textiles create an inviting atmosphere. Events like Chapin Sundays feel vibrant. Vegan and vegetarian options included. Staff genuinely engage. It?s a cultural hub as much as coffee bar.

img 5/5.0 28, Feb 2024

Felt like a mini escape

Ulew has this rare kind of energy?it?s not just about grabbing coffee; it feels like an experience. I was drawn in by the look of the place, but I stayed for the drinks and service. I tried the carrot-ginger juice and their signature latte de barrio. Both were crafted with attention, and the flavors were so unique. There?s a sense of calm here that?s hard to describe?like stepping into a slower, more peaceful version of the city. The team was approachable and knowledgeable, especially about the Guatemalan roots of the menu. I chatted with one of the owners briefly and appreciated how passionate they were about cultural preservation and sustainability. It felt more like visiting a friend?s home than a commercial shop. The prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality. This place is doing something special, and I?m grateful I found it. Already planning my next visit.

img 1/5.0 09, Feb 2024

Many small issues, big impact

Problems added up: wrong items in order, long wait, limited seating, lukewarm drinks. Staff corrected mistakes but only after lengthy delays. Coffee lacked acidity and warmth. Atmosphere charming, but experience felt chaotic. Prices high for what was delivered. Decor and community backstory inspiring, but service glitches steal focus. May have potential on quieter days but weekday rush exposed inefficiencies. Not a good choice when pressed for time.

img 1/5.0 21, Jan 2024

Overpriced and underwhelming

I don?t mind paying a bit more for quality, but my drink tasted basic and watery. Not worth the hype or the price.

img 4/5.0 28, Dec 2023

Beautiful inside and out

The moment I stepped inside Ulew, I knew it wasn?t a typical caf?. The vibe is warm and intentional, from the earthy tones of the space to the natural flavors in their drinks. I ordered a cacao latte and their beet juice. Both were fantastic?flavorful without being overly sweet, and presented with care. There?s a real respect for ingredients here, which I appreciate. The staff is knowledgeable and genuinely seems to enjoy sharing the story behind what they serve. There was a slight wait for drinks, but everything was made fresh so it was worth it. Loved the small touches, like reusable glass bottles and compostable straws. You feel like they?re not just running a business?they?re building something meaningful. Definitely one of the more thoughtful, refreshing caf?s in the area. Looking forward to trying more from their rotating seasonal menu.

img 2/5.0 02, Dec 2023

Mixed service and average taste

Coffee was mediocre?thin, lacking richness. Juice tasted watered down. Yet the ambiance and decor remain a highlight. Staff tried their best but lacked polish during busy spells. Online ordering errors caused delays. While vegan pastries are creative, the taste fell flat this visit. Community ethos is admirable, but product execution felt underwhelming. Patrons seeking bold flavors may be disappointed.

img 2/5.0 18, Nov 2023

Just okay at best

Coffee was warm, not hot. The place was loud, and the layout confusing. Thought I?d enjoy it more based on what I?d heard.

img 5/5.0 27, Oct 2023

Local cultural oasis

Coffee and juice bar offers more than just food?it feels like a cultural meeting place. Mayan art adorns the caf?, vegan offerings shine, and the vibe is welcoming. Drinks are flavorful, brewed with authenticity. Staff engage genuinely. Prices are fair for quality. Perfect for peaceful moments or quick pick-ups.

img 4/5.0 11, Oct 2023

Great quality and cultural charm

My visit to Ulew was a really refreshing change from the usual coffee spots around town. What stood out most wasn?t just the drinks (though they were great), but the intention behind everything?the design, the ingredients, the service. I had the turmeric ginger wellness shot and a matcha latte. Both were thoughtfully made and tasted clean and natural. The interior has lots of character?plants, bold artwork, and little cultural details that make you want to stay longer. The team was friendly and patient, especially when explaining the house blends and seasonal drinks. My only tiny gripe is that the seating fills up fast, especially on weekends, but that?s also a sign it?s well-loved. I?d come back in a heartbeat just for the vibe and the kind energy from the people who work there. Definitely a local gem worth knowing about.

img 3/5.0 29, Sep 2023

Relaxed space, decent drinks

There?s a laid-back charm to the space that makes it enjoyable to hang around. I tried one of their wellness shots and a matcha latte?both were decent. The matcha wasn?t as strong as I like, but still had a nice finish. Staff were nice, but seemed a little distracted. Overall, a pretty good experience, though room for improvement.

img 2/5.0 06, Sep 2023

Service was slow and inconsistent

Attempting to grab a quick drink one Wednesday afternoon led to long wait times. The cashier seemed overwhelmed despite just a handful of customers, and the line dragged on. A juice order was mixed incorrectly, missing a requested ingredient?staff offered a remake but it added further delay. D?cor remains charming, yet the ambience felt muted during the slow pace. While flavors can be quite pleasant, inconsistency in service undermines trust. Patrons seeking efficiency may want to visit during slower hours.

img 3/5.0 22, Aug 2023

Decent space, slightly loud

My visit was good overall?the smoothie was fresh, and staff got it ready quickly. Only issue was the noise; it echoed a bit inside. Could be better acoustically. Still, the space is clean and has a warm vibe. A few more quieter seating zones would really elevate the atmosphere.

img 2/5.0 04, Aug 2023

Missed the mark

Tried their Mayan mocha and it was more bitter than rich. Juice wasn?t cold either. A place with potential, but lacking execution today.

img 1/5.0 30, Jul 2023

Didn't match the reviews

Expectations were high, but my experience was far from what people described online. Service was slow, and drinks lacked flavor.

img 4/5.0 18, Jul 2023

Friendly Guate atmosphere

Warm walls with indigenous art create a homely environment. Latte de Barrio blends ginger syrup, cinnamon and oat milk beautifully. Vegan pastries taste genuine. Staff often chat and share recommendations. A comfortable place to enjoy coffee or a juice. Order accuracy is solid, though sometimes small mix-ups happen.

img 5/5.0 20, Jun 2023

Authentic and full of care

Ulew isn?t just a coffee spot?it feels like a place built from the ground up with meaning. I first came here on a friend?s recommendation and ended up making it a regular part of my week. Their drinks are thoughtfully curated, from the traditional herbal teas to the nut-based lattes. I?ve tried something new on each visit, and it?s always fresh and unique. My favorite is the almond-horchata iced latte?it?s creamy, subtly sweet, and comforting. The staff treats you like family, and you can feel their pride in what they?ve created. The music, artwork, and even the smell of the place feel purposeful. It?s the kind of caf? where people gather not just to drink but to connect and slow down. Whether you're into wellness drinks or just want a cozy spot to read, Ulew delivers. So glad I found it.

img 1/5.0 13, Jun 2023

Bad timing, order chaos

Tried brunch on a Sunday; queue spilled outside. Order took 25 minutes to fulfill. Sandwich dried out, coffee almost cold. Staff were courteous but overwhelmed. Online system glitched, sending duplicates. Paid full price for faulty product. Cultural vibe couldn?t mask frustration. For community events like Chapin Sunday, crowd control at minimum would help. As is, operational issues overshadow hospitality intention.

img 4/5.0 25, May 2023

Unique drinks and friendly team

Their hibiscus juice and coffee combo was something new for me. The flavors felt fresh and intentional. Staff were helpful when I asked questions about the ingredients. There?s definitely attention to detail here, even in the glassware. Some seats could be more comfortable, but otherwise no real complaints.

img 5/5.0 03, May 2023

Rich, cultural experience

Visiting feels like being invited into a warm Guatemalan kitchen. Latte de Barrio tastes comforting, with cinnamon and oat milk; juices are refreshing and natural. Friendly staff share stories about the shop?s origin. Environment smells faintly of incense. Decor evokes home. One of the most genuine caf?s in LA.

img 2/5.0 29, Apr 2023

Rushed vibe, weak drinks

Staff looked overwhelmed and the drink I got felt hastily made. Was hoping for bold flavors, but it came out flat.

img 1/5.0 09, Apr 2023

Disappointing delivery

Tried online order for convenience, but pickup chaotic. Text confirmation didn?t match actual order?juice missing, sandwich incomplete. A staffer went back to the bar and fixed a few items, but item substitutions occurred without notice. At checkout, receipt showed different prices. Found out only later. Coffee quality was okay but overshadowed by confusion. Cultural d?cor and warmth lose impact when orders go haywire. Price-to-value ratio dropped steeply. Not ideal for takeaway or when short on time.
