Overly Complicated Process

Went with RateGenius for a car loan refinancing, expected it to be a very smooth and easy experience, but all turned out to be truly much more complicated than one could have imagined. So much back-and-forth over paperwork, and always the feeling of "okay, we'll get everything done today," but another postponement because everything has already been provided. I contacted them several times, but answers were not forth and often ambiguous at best. The price they were able to secure for me was only slightly better than what I had been paying; so, I was not convinced that all of it was worth the hassle. I get it, refinancing is a bit of a process. But then again, I expect more from RateGenius. Its failure to follow through on my expectations left a really bad taste in my mouth, and I probably wouldn't refer them to anyone.

Disappointing Experience

My experience with RateGenius was really disappointing. I had gotten a very promising rate quote, which made me continue through the refinance. Still, the whole process was just riddled with delays, and we just couldn't get any kind of consistent message from their side. Once upon a time, I was told everything was ready, only to later find out more documents were needed. Weeks went by, and with every call for updates, some representative or another gave me different information. Eventually, the rate that was offered wasn't competitive with what I was quoted upfront, and it really made me feel misled. This lack of transparency and organization just soured my experience on RateGenius. I feel that they could have handled things much more professionally and, by dint of this very nature, much more effectively.

I listened to some good things said about RateGenius, and I was hopeful that the refinancing process would save me money and be simple. Unfortunately, trouble arisen in plentiful quantities. The initial rate they offered was competitive, but the more and more documents that kept on getting requested with additional requirements really slowed everything down; in all fairness, it only was when I finally got through the process that the final rate ended up being higher than what they first promised. That sounded really fishy-a great rate in the door with a catch. Customer service was cordial but not helpful and did not provide clear answers. It was frustrating and left me with a rate that is barely less than what I had before. Not exactly the savings I thought I would get from refinancing.

Frustrating Delays and Lack of Communication

The Refinancing Process with RateGenius was extremely frustrating. First, the rate was enticing enough, but things quickly went nowhere from there. In fact, the delays just seemed to never end. It would reach a point whereby I thought it was finally done only to get another message requesting more paperwork or further information. Their communication among their team members was not consistent; sometimes they were very helpful, while at other times, they were puzzling and unclear about this whole process. It took over two months to finally complete the refinance, and in the end, the rate wasn't as great as they'd initially advertised. I understand that refinancing can be time-consuming, but a lack of clear communication and constant delays made for an absolutely miserable experience. If a person wants to secure a fast and seamless refinance, RateGenius is not the best choice for them.

High Hopes Dashed by Poor Service

I had always desired to believe in the glowing reviews written for RateGenius. What eventually transpired was in direct contravention of the said reviews. The process as a whole was a drag, and it seemed as if I did most of the work myself. They asked me to send several documents several times that I already had sent to them. The customer care team was inaccessible, and in cases where I got someone to the line, they hardly knew the answer to my questions. Therefore, when everything was finalized, I was not even assured that I got a deal. The whole experience was pretty exhausting, and I was left wishing I had gone with another company. Expect much better service from RateGenius and would not hesitate to discourage others from going through them.

Lack of Transparency Throughout the Process

Was really disappointed by RateGenius because, in the refinancing process, it was completely opaque. They quoted me a rate which just sounded fantastic on the front end, but, after a number of rounds of paperwork and long waits at the end, the final rate was higher than I anticipated. Like a bait-and-switch. Every single time I made a follow-up call on my application, the response was some somewhat general answer and never the same confirmation I received. Not entirely that refinance isn't always a speedy process, though. It should have been all very smooth-after nearly accepting the original quote-when they should have told me up front, rather than giving me the promise of the much better rate that never occurred. I certainly could not recommend this company for service based on my experience.

The process at RateGenius was much more complicated than I had anticipated, from the inquiry at the very beginning to the final approval. I did have to call them on several occasions in order to clarify a few instructions, and each time a representative was saying something different. It took over six weeks, which I found quite frustrating. The final rate was not even that much better than my original loan. If I had known that the process would be that long and strenuous, I'd have gone to a different place. I do not really recommend RateGenius because they make it too complicated for refinancing.
