    Excellent Flavor, Slight Packaging Flaw

    Flavor Didn't Meet the Hype

    Having read about the background and purpose behind 10th Mountain Whiskey, hopes were reasonably high. The idea and commitment to heritage are commendable. Regrettably, the whiskey itself failed to meet that same level of greatness. The aroma was strongly alcoholic and failed to deliver on any of the depth described. The flavor was unbalanced, with a burn overpowering instead of enhancing. It tasted like the spirit was also very young and might have gotten more benefit out of aging or refinement. In a mixed cocktail, the austerity still broke through. Shipping and customer service were both responsive but smooth, though the product simply didn't have a finished taste. For so distinctive a craft distillery, the whiskey itself should be evidence of more attention and polish. It wasn't a fun drinking experience and lacked much personality. This bottle might be good for some as an oddity, but for those that look for complexity, it will be a disappointment.

    Well-Crafted Whiskey

However, the taste fell short. When opening the bottle, the scent was not strong, and the initial taste was hot and in-your-face. There was little body or richness?only a big alcohol kick and a very light caramel or vanilla note that promptly disappeared. It did not have the heft and substance that whiskey is pleasing to sip. Attempted pairing with food and even chilling it a bit, but the same thin, unbalanced character still existed. It's a whiskey that may be best suited in a mixed drink, but it's not strong enough to hold its own alone. The idea and intention behind the brand are present, but the result still is in its earliest stages. It could potentially get there with some refinement, but it hasn't gotten there yet.

Nevertheless, the whiskey requires additional aging or blending skill to keep pace with the brand's narrative and visual beauty. For the time being, it seems like a product that's not yet ready for its moment.

Even after adding water and letting it breathe, the overall experience didn't get better. The expected layers of flavor just didn?t come through. Packaging and fulfillment were great, and the company clearly invests effort into presentation and service, but the spirit inside the bottle felt rushed.     There is much to be appreciated about the idea of 10th Mountain Whiskey?from the association with war history to the mountain-way of-life branding. One can tell that effort was taken to construct the narrative and the presentation of the product. The problem was that the whiskey didn't deliver in terms of taste. It didn't have the deep, complex richness one comes to expect from craft whiskey. Instead, there was an overpowering alcohol flavor with nothing much else to complement it. Even after a little age in the glass, the zip remained robust, and it was hard to pin down the delicacies described on the tasting notes. It had almost the taste of the whiskey being unfinished, like a potentially great batch that just wasn't ready yet. Customer service and shipping were fine, and the bottle is excellent-looking on the shelf?but its contents require finesse. With improved aging and balance, this may be a worthwhile addition to the collection of a whiskey enthusiast. Currently, it falls short.

    Each phase of this buy surprised me. The site was convenient to navigate, checkout was simple, and shipping arrived quicker than anticipated. Once I broke open the bottle, I knew I was in for something. The whiskey is heavy and warm-scented?whispers of vanilla and wood. The taste? Even more so. It's full-bodied, silky smooth, and barely spicy. The balance is great, and the finish hangs on nicely without ever becoming harsh. The bottle itself is nicely shaped and looks beautiful on the bar. But most of all, it's the history behind the brand that makes it stand out. There's substance and thought in what they're doing, and it's evident. This isn't some other label?it's a product with a sense of place and intention. It?s easily become one of my favorites, and I?ll definitely be exploring the rest of their offerings soon.     Branding Wins, Whiskey Doesn?t

    The branding and idea behind remembering the 10th Mountain Division is rich, and it feels like it successfully conveys rugged mountain roots. Too bad, because otherwise this whiskey misses on its impression. It hasn't got much finish or depth expected of an artisal liquor. It has been young and a touch primitive, burning but not full enough of flavors. Even resting this in glass a while was insufficient. There was a bit of sweetness at first, but that immediately gave way to a pungent bite that lingered unpleasurably. Tested it in a cocktail to determine if it would blend better, but the same problems existed. It's clear a lot of work was put into promotion and packaging, but the contents of the bottle simply didn't pay off. Packaging and service were top-notch, but when you buy a top-end whiskey, the flavor has to live up to the hoopla. There's promise here, but it isn't ready for its close-up quite yet.

    Promising Concept, But Lacks Finish

    The history and purpose behind 10th Mountain Whiskey are intriguing, and that's what initially caught people's attention to the brand. However, the experience of drinking the whiskey didn't live up to the hype brought about by the branding. The whiskey had an aggressive initial sting and hardly any depth. It didn't have that multi-faceted character you usually experience in well-aged spirits. Sipping it neat revealed little development on the palate, and even after trying it with a splash of water, the taste remained sharp and unbalanced. It feels like a product that needs more time in the barrel to smooth out its rough edges. Customer service and delivery were both very good, and there?s clearly effort behind the operation. To that end, though, the actual whiskey itself is not yet good enough to earn repeat business within a crowded market. There's promise, for sure, but until there's greater polish with the final product, it doesn't feel warranted to buy this again.

Sadly, the whiskey didn't match up to the greatness of everything around it. The whisky had an initial sharp youthful snap that wouldn't soften in a matter of time or warmth adjustments. The burn overpowered any delicate notes, and despite attempting it in various glasses and conditions, it still felt aggressive on the palate. The finish was brief, hot, and somewhat unpalatable. It's obvious the team producing this brand is passionate and considerate with their packaging, but the underlying product simply didn't feel sophisticated. There's potential if more time is put into the aging or the experimentation with the mix, but as it stands, it tastes more like a whiskey about the packaging rather than the pour. Let's hope subsequent batches bring more balance and depth.

    Room for Improvement

    Attempted the whiskey due to the attractive brand history and good recommendations from others, but it didn't quite deliver. The first pour was rich in color, but the taste was too harsh and lacked the depth usually found in small-batch liquor. It had a youthful character to it that failed to soften with age or exposure to air. Enjoyed the rough-around-the-edges branding and the order process was smooth, but the ultimate experience?drinking the whiskey?was disappointing. It tasted better suited for mixin' than sippin', but even in mixed drinks, the bitterness was present. There is no doubt the potential is there, and the company has a good base to start with.     Following a reading of the company's heritage and dedication to quality, the whiskey sounded like a good discovery. Sadly, the taste did not equate to the history. It was young and unfulfilled?more bite than harmony. The palate burn lingered, and even after letting the glass develop, there was not a great deal of change. The tasting notes provided did not come through, and the finish was harsh. It's not that the whiskey was absolutely unpalatable, but it didn't have the depth and sophistication that will make for a memorable drink. The service and delivery were smooth and speedy, and the bottle is eye-catching on the shelf. But the content just wasn't there to support the form. It's obvious that this brand has some solid building blocks, but the execution of this specific whiskey needs another try. Maybe future versions will nail it better. For now, it's a middling experience wrapped in a pretty package.

    Seeing a few posts about 10th Mountain Whiskey on social media, there was interest in attempting something from a Colorado distillery. The shipping experience was easy, and the presentation of the product is obviously well planned. But the whiskey was too hot and lacked the smooth, easy-drinking character anticipated. Even allowing the pour to sit or adding a splash of water didn't mute the burn or elicit much complexity. The tasting notes touted on the label were difficult to discern, and the finish was quick and hot. It tasted like a spirit that wasn't aged sufficiently or balanced to perfection. It's a shame, because the narrative and design are appealing, but the whiskey falls short of the brand's reputation. Would like to see what the product matures into in future batches, since the foundation is there. But for now, at least, it was closer to an initial draft than to a completed product.

    Too Sharp to Enjoy Neat

    There is something fearless to the branding of 10th Mountain that gets you right away, and the history brings so much personality to it. But then when it comes to the liquid in the bottle, it just doesn't deliver. The whiskey tasted very harsh and wasn't smooth enough, layered in the way you want it, so that it was enjoyable in and of itself. It may be okay for cocktails where bolder mixers can tame it, but as a stand-alone, it was unbalanced and harsh. Tried to let it age, tried adding water, but the brashness remained. For a bottle of this price point, one would expect more polish. The ordering experience and shipping were good, and the packaging is fantastic?but the product itself needs more maturity. Wouldn't dismiss the brand outright, as they seem to care about their image and story, but this particular bottle didn't quite seem like a matured product. A bit more aging may help immensely.

    Reliable and Consistently Good

    I have ordered from this company a couple of times now, and all bottles have had consistent quality. The whiskey itself is smooth without being overpowering and doesn't leave a harsh finish. It ships quickly and is well-packed every time. The company has certainly earned shelf space for me for regular drams.

    Looks Great, But Taste Doesn?t Hold

    When the whiskey did arrive, it was obvious a great deal of attention had been paid to the visuals. The branding is a great story and the bottle itself is a looker. That made the initial pour all the more disappointing. The whiskey slams with a hot, nearly medicinal kick that leaves little room for subtlety or complexity. There's an alcohol-forward burn throughout and to the end, and any hope of vanilla or spice notes are smothered under it. It didn't get any better after letting it aerate or with a little ice. The taste just did not match the promise of craft and premium for a product that's marketed as such. Both shipping and customer service were seamless, and the brand name is quite memorable. But what's in the bottle seems to need more time to mature. This might be a good collector's item or present, but not a drinker's choice.

    Satisfying Purchase with Great Taste

    Actually liked the flavor?smooth and well-balanced with a touch of spice. Made a good impression. The packaging was simple but effective, and the bottle came undamaged. A good purchase overall. There is still some room to improve the branding and customer interaction, but the product itself is worth coming back to.
